Industrial tourismVisit the SETMI

Each and every day after selective sorting we throw away an average of 1kg of waste per person.

What happens to this waste (household waste, ordinary industrial waste and medical waste), which cannot be recycled as it is?

How is it incinerated and, above all, how is the energy generated by this combustion used, and what happens to the left over clinkers?

A visit to the SITMI Energy Recovery Plant will allow you to understand how 10,000 housing units are supplied with heating and domestic hot water.

On the programme:

In the conference room: presentation of the key principles of incineration, energy recovery and fume treatment (multimedia material giving a 3D view of all the processes implemented on the site and the “waste collection” workshop allowing you to understand in an enjoyable and educational way how waste can be transformed into a renewable source of energy).

Access to a belvedere providing a view over :
  • the site (clinker storage)
  • the overhead crane driver’s station
  • the impressive waste reception pit.
